I think a programm "English in Motion" on the radio "Maks fm" in Sochi is very stupid!! Really! Yudgin Yesenin has bad pronunciation! I can't stand it indeed! Poor fellow! He wants to teach English!!! Yudgin Yesenin! Instead of this you should learn English yourself!! I want you to get it right! |

hotel
Sochi is not a cheap place to visit now. Most things cost the same as in Europe or even more I‘d say that Sochi has Moscow prices. There are many nightclubs, bars and restaurants. You can save some money by staying in a private hotel instead of the Radisson or other big hotels. Private hotels’ rates are more flexible and you can find a place for a reasonable price, especially if you book in advance. I can’t say what it will cost you to stay in Sochi for a week. You can spend an evening drinking beer on a public beach or a night in the most expensive nightclub drinking whisky. If you opt for the fist option the same amount of money you would blow choosing the latter will last you a week. |

Apartment Rental
Hello,
This year when a return train ticket from Moscow to Sochi costs more than a package tour to Egypt or Turkey Sochi is not very busy with tourists. Don’t worry, your Russian friend is right, you will easily find good accommodation upon your arrival. Just a couple of years ago I would have advised you to book in advance, but not today. Most people who rent apartments in Sochi do not advertise online. There are reasons. Don’t forget to bargain.
Hope you'll enjoy your stay in Sochi - Check our Sochi attractions pages! |

Apartment Rental
I am planning to spend 2 or 3 weeks with my Russian partner in Sochi from mid July and we would like to rent a decent apartment. She reckons that we can get accomodation on arrival but I would feel more comfortable booking it in advance. Can you recommend a good agency/website/property ? |

renting moto like in asia
I haven’t heard anything about bike rent. There are places which rent mopeds and bicycles in the summer. Further from Sochi centre is not necessarily cheaper today. There are lots of small private hotels or people renting rooms around and if you search well you can find something. I guess you can try to bargain as this season we haven’t had too many tourists so far. |

russian language in sochi?
Hello Samantha,
I don’t know of any programs like this in Sochi. You can try contacting http://www.sfrudn.ru/ Sochi Branch of People Friendship University, maybe they have something, or any other of numerous universities in Sochi. If you don’t find any programs, you can consider family accommodation (there are might be families who are interested in accommodating a native English speaker) and a private tutor. |

Ferry from Anapa to Sochi
Greetings from Sochi.
There is no ferry to Anapa at the moment. There used to be a hydrofoil from Sochi to Anapa and there might be one again in June-August, you never know. There is an e-mail and phones on the sea port site. You should contact them and ask about their plans for the summer. |

Sochi 2014 Olympic – Environmental impact
Did anyone really think they could build all that without any environmental damage?
Brand-new, State-of-the-Art Venues: 11 custom-built, state-of-the-art venues will be developed for Sochi 2014 – the largest number in the history of the Winter Games
Olympic Park: The Sochi Olympic Park will be the first in Winter Games history to contain the Olympic Village, including all athlete, IOC, NOC and IF accommodation; the main Olympic stadium; all ice venues for competition and training; the Medals Plaza; the Main Media Centre and many Games-time amenities
Alpine Venues: The ‘Mountain Cluster’ will be located in Sochi's Krasnaya Polyana mountains
Ice Venues: The ‘Coastal Cluster’ for ice events will be located in Sochi's Imeretinskaya Valley along the Black Sea
Connecting the Clusters: The transport infrastructure around Sochi will be upgraded with 59km of high-speed roads to all venues, dedicated Olympic Lanes, a new tunnel between the coast and Sochi's Krasnaya Polyana mountains and a rail network, with transport adapted specifically to the needs of Paralympic athletes.
International Transport Infrastructure: Sochi International Airport welcomes 1.5 million people each year. The opening of its new international terminal by mid-2008 will increase the airport's capacity to 1,300 domestic and 2,500 international passengers per hour.
Athlete Accommodation: Sochi 2014’s 1,600-room Olympic Village and 1,400-room Mountain sub-Village offer all athletes 4-star hotel accommodation in close proximity to competition venues and amenities, with more space than previous Winter Olympic and Paralympic Villages
Delegation Accommodation: National Olympic Committee (NOC) delegations are guaranteed space near their athletes in Sochi 2014’s Olympic Village and Mountain Sub-Village, with no minimum stay imposed.
Supporters Accommodation: As Russia’s premier tourist destination, Sochi and the surrounding region offer the Olympic Family an extensive, diverse and excellent accommodation inventory, with more than 57,000 hotel rooms (28,000 already exist) already guaranteed under contract for the Winter Games.
Security and Experience: Sochi hosts more than 100 Category ‘A’ VIP visits every year. Russia has successfully hosted more than 100 international sports events in the last 25 years, without a single security incident. Annually, Sochi hosts an average of more than 400 events, which attract over 1.5 million people
Olympic infrastructure includes the following major venues:
1. Olympic Village, capacity of 3,000
2. Russian National Sliding Center (Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Luge), capacity of 11,000 (10,000 standing)
3. Medals Plaza, capacity of 40,000 (10,000 standing)
4. Olympic Curling Centre, capacity of 3,000
5. Sochi Olympic Stadium, capacity of 40,000, consists of three sub-venues with football training pitches and a medical rehabilitation center
6. Bolshoi Ice Palace (Ice Hockey), capacity of 12,000
7. Russian National Ski-Jumping Centre (Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined), capacity of 5,000
8. Olympic Oval (Speed Skating), capacity of 8,000
9. Sochi Olympic Skating Centre (Figure Skating and Short Track Skating), capacity of 12,000
10. Maly Ice Palace (Ice Hockey), capacity of 7,000
11. Mountain Olympic Village, capacity of 2,500 |

Accommodations for the Sochi 2014 Olympics
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your outlook), there is no more door knocking in our society. There is less trust and everything has been commercialized. I am sure there will be legal and proper Sochi winter Olympic accommodation booking soon, we just need to wait a year or two. Many existing hotels and SPAs in Sochi will be renovated and new hotels will be built. |

Accommodations for the Sochi 2014 Olympics
A very popular practice in Russia since the soviet times is renting a room, not the whole appartment or house. When i was a child i can even remember how people usualy arrived at the main train station in Sochi from all over the country, and they usualy just walked to houses located closer to the beach. Picked the house wich they thought suited them best and started going knocking from door to door, asking if any rooms were avilable. And agreed on the price and terms on the spot. So my advice as a native russian, you can book anything you want ! just dont pay any thing in advance. Because such big events as Olympic games attaract a lot of usefull people (investrs, ads, tourists) but it also attracts a lot of bad people (criminals, pickpocket, false tickets etc.) that want to earn something. This doesnt mean that its too dangerous to go to Sochi. You have to realize that the whole event will be heavily guarded.
Any way, if you have any questions that i can try to answer just write to my mail - pppppp100@mail.ru .
P.S. Im not selling anything ! Im not buying anything ! |

The Easiest way (ie cheapest) to reach Sochi
Hello Ian,
There are different ways to get to Sochi now but they are not cheap. There is a ferry from Trabzon and regular train connection with major Russian sties. I would not recommend traveling by ferry in winter because of frequent sea storms. Very soon the construction of Sochi’s new airport will be completed. I’m sure there will be some direct international flights and I think they will be the cheapest way to get to Sochi. I guess it makes sense to wait and see. Four years is a long time. |
