Hello,
My family and I are planning on attending the 2014 Olympics and we are looking for travel ideas and routes that will take us there for the least cost.
The internet searching has given me pricing into Istanbul Turkey as the cheapest and closest major centre with Moscow second.
My question to you is: Are there better cities to fly into and connect with, that will give a family of four a chance to spend their money in your city and not just on the flights? Train connections? Boat or ferry?
I'm sure that the planning committee for the Olympics have ideas for moving large groups of tourists in and out of Sochi but we are looking to establish a route early and begin saving based on our findings.
Any direction you could give would be of immense help.

thank-you
Ian and family

Hello Ian,
There are different ways to get to Sochi now but they are not cheap. There is a ferry from Trabzon and regular train connection with major Russian sties. I would not recommend traveling by ferry in winter because of frequent sea storms. Very soon the construction of Sochi’s new airport will be completed. I’m sure there will be some direct international flights and I think they will be the cheapest way to get to Sochi. I guess it makes sense to wait and see. Four years is a long time.
