Brand-new, State-of-the-Art Venues: 11 custom-built, state-of-the-art venues will be developed for Sochi 2014 – the largest number in the history of the Winter Games
Olympic Park: The Sochi Olympic Park will be the first in Winter Games history to contain the Olympic Village, including all athlete, IOC, NOC and IF accommodation; the main Olympic stadium; all ice venues for competition and training; the Medals Plaza; the Main Media Centre and many Games-time amenities
Alpine Venues: The ‘Mountain Cluster’ will be located in Sochi's Krasnaya Polyana mountains
Ice Venues: The ‘Coastal Cluster’ for ice events will be located in Sochi's Imeretinskaya Valley along the Black Sea
Connecting the Clusters: The transport infrastructure around Sochi will be upgraded with 59km of high-speed roads to all venues, dedicated Olympic Lanes, a new tunnel between the coast and Sochi's Krasnaya Polyana mountains and a rail network, with transport adapted specifically to the needs of Paralympic athletes.
International Transport Infrastructure: Sochi International Airport welcomes 1.5 million people each year. The opening of its new international terminal by mid-2008 will increase the airport's capacity to 1,300 domestic and 2,500 international passengers per hour.
Athlete Accommodation: Sochi 2014’s 1,600-room Olympic Village and 1,400-room Mountain sub-Village offer all athletes 4-star hotel accommodation in close proximity to competition venues and amenities, with more space than previous Winter Olympic and Paralympic Villages
Delegation Accommodation: National Olympic Committee (NOC) delegations are guaranteed space near their athletes in Sochi 2014’s Olympic Village and Mountain Sub-Village, with no minimum stay imposed.
Supporters Accommodation: As Russia’s premier tourist destination, Sochi and the surrounding region offer the Olympic Family an extensive, diverse and excellent accommodation inventory, with more than 57,000 hotel rooms (28,000 already exist) already guaranteed under contract for the Winter Games.
Security and Experience: Sochi hosts more than 100 Category ‘A’ VIP visits every year. Russia has successfully hosted more than 100 international sports events in the last 25 years, without a single security incident. Annually, Sochi hosts an average of more than 400 events, which attract over 1.5 million people
Olympic infrastructure includes the following major venues:
1. Olympic Village, capacity of 3,000
2. Russian National Sliding Center (Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Luge), capacity of 11,000 (10,000 standing)
3. Medals Plaza, capacity of 40,000 (10,000 standing)
4. Olympic Curling Centre, capacity of 3,000
5. Sochi Olympic Stadium, capacity of 40,000, consists of three sub-venues with football training pitches and a medical rehabilitation center
6. Bolshoi Ice Palace (Ice Hockey), capacity of 12,000
7. Russian National Ski-Jumping Centre (Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined), capacity of 5,000
8. Olympic Oval (Speed Skating), capacity of 8,000
9. Sochi Olympic Skating Centre (Figure Skating and Short Track Skating), capacity of 12,000
10. Maly Ice Palace (Ice Hockey), capacity of 7,000
11. Mountain Olympic Village, capacity of 2,500
